How long does an airline pilot training take?
The duration of the training depends on which training program is followed. The minimum duration is 22 months for the full-time Pilot Career Track. If you choose to work during the ATPL theory, the training can be completed in 32 months.
Finally, if you are selected for the Skywings Pilot Scholarship, during your training you will work for 2 years for Skywings Flight Training (planning, maintenance of aircraft and hangar, administrative tasks) and the entire training will take 36 months.

I did not pass the selection procedure. What now? Can I register again?
To be able to retire the selection procedure you must wait at least 6 months and get the approval of the Skywings selection committee.
I am over 35 years old; can I still start the course?
Experience has taught us that the younger you start training, the easier it is to dive into the books fully focused. That is not to say that once you are over 35, you no longer have a chance to realize your pilot dream. We have graduate students over 40 who have found a job without any problems. As long as you start with the right motivation and can make enough time for the study work, this should not be a problem.

I wonder if my specific medical situation could be a problem for obtaining a Class 1 medical certificate. How can I get certainty about this?
The Class 1 certificate is there to ensure that you can practice as a pilot without endangering others or yourself. In many cases, medical conditions are no problem for a safe flight operation and therefore do not hinder the achievement of a medical examination. The decision is made in consultation with the medical examiner and the attending specialist or general practitioner, who can issue a certificate.
Where can I undergo a medical examination for the EASA Class 1?
You can do this at the Brussels Aviation Medical, Brussels Airport – Building 26 – B-House 1930 Zaventem. You can make an appointment via tel.: +32 2 416 22 70 or via email email@example.com.
Contact us before you make an appointment, so we can speed up the process.
Can I work during my training?
If you follow a full-time course, such as our Pilot Career Track, with an eye to be ready as soon as possible, the combination of work and study is not possible due to too much material in a short time.
You can apply for our Pilot Career Scholarship, where you will work for Skywings Flight Training during your training.
A second option is to opt for the Pilot Career Track program and combine work with the theoretical phase of your training (24 months). For the advanced training afterwards, the intention is that you can fly back full-time.
I have completed BSO or ‘Beroeps’. Can I also participate in the selections?
A successful airline pilot training depends on several factors: the first is the talent and motivation that you have in house. That does not depend on your school journey. As a second factor, you should certainly have a basic knowledge of mathematics and physics, as well as being able to process a lot of material in a short time and in an organized manner.
Not sure about your education level? Then you can always register for our preparatory “Math & Physics Prep course”.
Is the selection without obligation?
Yes, the selection is without obligation. We will only charge you an amount of € 195 for the first step, namely the COMPASS test. If you succeed, Skywings Flight Training will bear the cost of all further steps in the selection.
Skywings Flight Training is a service provider for the ‘KMO Portefeuille’. Can I use this for the training as an airline pilot?
Yes, you can: with this you can have 30% of your training subsidized by the Flemish Government with a maximum of € 7,500 per year. For this you must have a Flemish company and meet the conditions on the website of the ‘Vlaamse agentschap voor innovatie & ondernemen. Read all info via this link.
